CASE STUDY

PROJECT NAME & LOCATION: GENTOO HAVELOCK BUILDING BOILER PLANT UPGRADE

CLIENT: GENTOO GROUP

PROJECT VALUE: £40,000

SERVICE(S): DESIGN - REPLACEMENT BOILER PLANT

DESCRIPTION OF WORK UNDERTAKEN:

  • Local Social Housing commercial offices over two floors. Existing boiler plant room housed an Ideal Concord 200kw (4x50kW) modular boiler.

  • Boiler provided Low pressure hot water (LPHW) for a domestic hot water calorifier and for space heating via radiators and fan convectors. System was vented, with header tanks located in the loft for both the heating and Domestic hot water (DHW) systems. Old system was inefficient and had become unreliable, many spare parts were obsolete and only 2 of the 4 boiler modules were operational.

  • Old system was replaced with new Ideal Evomax condensing boilers. The client highlighted a preference for a pressurised system which would negate the need for the loft header tanks, but brought other challenges as old pipework and radiators would be operating at significantly higher pressures than before.

  • At the start of the works, a survey revealed the shell of the DHW Calorifier was leaking and it became necessary to replace this too.

  • NHC supplied and installed 2 no. Ideal Evo Max 80 Boilers, Ideal 100/150 Concentric Flue System, 300 Ltr Expansion Vessel, Pressurisation Unit and Shunt pump. Works included all boiler connections and pipework and electrical work to boilers and shunt pumps.

  • New calorifier is unvented and connected directly to the mains water supply and maintained at 2.1 bar via a pressure reducing valve. An expansion vessel allows for thermal expansion of the DHW. BMS TREND system integrated controls for all new plant.
